We are petitioning WECDSB Administration & Trustees, Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin, Minister of Education Liz Sandals, MPP Teresa Piruzza and MPP Percy Hatfield
Immediately stop the discussion, development and decisions
regarding the Riverside Accommodation Review process, (which intends to
immediately close St. Maria Goretti, transfer 7&8 students from Goretti,
St. Rose, St. Jules and St. John Vianney to Brennan high school to create a
7-12 model, and to split the JK-6 Goretti students between St. Rose and St.
John Vianney with the pending closure of St. Jules and eventual closure of St.
Rose) to maintain the Status Quo and reconsider all factors including all
facilities, programs, enrollment and boundaries, in a process that should
involve parents, the Board, teachers, business partners, City
administration and the greater community affected by the recommended changes.
Over 1500 children will be sacrificed by being shuffled
among a variety of schools in order to prop up an old, under-utilized Brennan
high school. In addition, there is a
high possibility that these children will be moved more than once to solve the
Board's problems with declining enrollment.
Taking the action proposed in this petition will find a better solution
for the problem of Brennan high school's dropping enrollment without disrupting
the lives of many hundreds of elementary children and their families - the
current recommendation by the Director of Education is NOT in the best interest
of any of these children.
Total incompetence. Keeping 7 and 8 year olds away from there own schools is a huge mistake. Think about the kids for once instead of the budget.
