Salem Drive School
We at Salem Drive School first grade classes are concerned about current, and future class sizes. The number of students in each class are starting to reach alarming numbers. We feel it is difficult not only for the teacher to help the students with the current number of students, but feel it is not conducive for a thriving educational, social, safe environment. It is in the early grades that critical foundation learning is taking place, and if they fail to absorb what is needed we are concerned with the breakdown of future academic success. With the recently added math program being introduced this year the child as well as the teacher are compromised giving the appropriate help to some students who are struggling in the current classrooms. The recent awareness of classroom safety in case of a lock down or unforeseeable emergency has only led parents to feel our children are at risk with such large numbers of students in one classroom.
