Encourage Biking & Walking to Saratoga Schools
We, the undersigned, urge the Saratoga Springs School District Administration, the Board of Education and the City of Saratoga Springs to encourage children to walk and bike to school. Doing so helps get our kids outdoors, keeps them healthy and active, decreases traffic congestion and pollution, and, over the long term, could decrease taxpayer costs for fuel and buses. Specifically we request that: * The Board of Education agrees to allow walking and biking to all schools. In particular, the BOE should allow Maple Avenue Middle School students to walk and bike, with written permission from student’s parents or legal guardians (as formally requested by at the BOE May 28th meeting). * The Board of Education, the School District and the City of Saratoga Springs establish a "Safe Routes to School" program in Saratoga Springs which would help develop the infrastructure and education needed to help children walk and ride safely to school.
