UPDATE;
The City Council meeting is April 14th @ 12:00. Please if you've ever been to Blackwater Field of Dreams, take the the time to send a quick letter or email to the city council. Even if its just a paragraph of your experience. It would be devastating if we lost the opportunity for the kids and future kids to be able to play here in our Blackwater community. Thank you in advance for helping our family and baseball community!

We need your help to Save Blackwater Field of Dreams in southern Virginia Beach where kids have been playing baseball for 7 years. One of our neighbors is trying to stop us from using the field because he says all he hears all day are kids laughing and playing baseball. Children should be laughing and playing outside all day! If he wins it will ultimately take away so much from our small community out here in Blackwater. The field was built to teach kids not only baseball but life skills, having fun, making life long friendships and keeping them active and outdoors. The field has been here for 7 years and so many families have been here cheering on their kids and making memories. The Princess Anne Indy wrote an article about our field in May of 2016. http://princessanneindy.com/tag/derrick-howell/
It tells the beginning of Blackwater Field of Dreams and a little history of our family.
As of right now there are not enough fields to play on, especially since the school fields are shut down because of COVID. This leaves so many children’s teams unable to play. We are fighting to keep the field in use for the present & future baseball players in our community. We don’t charge money to play on our field and we pay for all of the field expenses to keep costs low for all families. We also hold a 501c3 for our team to help pay for the big team expenses. We’ve worked very hard to make a mark on not only our children’s future but also every child we come in contact with. Please help us stop one person from ruining it for countless children and families!
So on March 10, 2021 we will meet with the city for them to decide what we can do moving forward with our field and we need your help! Please help us by signing this petition to allow our boys to continue to practice and play games at Blackwater Field of Dreams. Also if you live in Blackwater, played at our field or just want to say something about us, PLEASE send the City Council a short email with Blackwater Field of Dreams in the subject. The more they hear from us the better.
Thank you!

Seeing this much support for our field makes me so incredibly proud of this community. It proves that so many of you value the laughter and life lessons our kids find on that diamond. Let keep this energy moving toward our goal of protecting this space for every child in Blackwater.

We are creeping up on our first big milestone of one hundred signatures and I need you to help me push us over that edge today. Seeing how many people value these memories is the only thing keeping my family going through this fight to keep the field open for our children.

Our children need youth sports more than ever. Please do not take an opportunity away for children to improve physical and mental health, to learn how to win and lose graciously and how interact and learn from and respect one another.
This field serves a real service down even for those of us without children playing. It's nice to go out & watch a game that's fun & where the kids are having so much fun. Don't take it away from the kids or from our community.
My son grew up playing baseball in T-ball to now playing in the Orioles minor-league system. We need more fields we need kids to have fun especially in this environment but the whole country is experiencing. Please vote to keep this field
My kids have played here over the years and so have many of their friends. Taking this away from so many kids would be another tough blow that children have had to deal with since all the shut downs due to Covid-19. Keep this place operating!
My son played there when he was 10 or 11 years old. Now he is 17 and still talks about this field. How can any adult complain about hearing kids outside laughing and having fun? It would be a tragedy to take this away from kids of the future.
History need not to be forgotten.
Please keep Blackwater Field of Dreams open for boys to practice and play ball games!!!

I live next to other fields in Blackwater Park and would never imagine complaining about kids playing ball outside my windows. Don’t close any fields because kids need these enriching activities to teach them positive life skills.
