Lenape JROTC was started by SFC Gantt 21 years ago. He put in his own personal time and effort to support this program. He doesn't deserve to lose his job over the stupidity of others.

Colonel Alvarado, just started in January of 2016. Although new, he has made a large impact on cadets. He had so many great changes to the program and he was what this program needed.

Due to an incident that happened at school, SFC Gantt and Colonel Alvarado have been absent from school for four weeks. With that said, we can only assume what has happened.

The incident is being looked at as a horsing around type of incident. Although no one knew about what was going on. Only the cadets involved knew. If SFC Gantt didn't know what was happening and COL Alvarado was only here for 3 months, how are they to be held accountable? The situation is ultimately a mess and the cadets have been in a class with a retired military sub and a recent college graduate. Cadets are adjusting but they shouldn't have to. SFC and COL should be teaching the class, not the subsitutes.

We need parental support as well as cadet and community support to sign this petition. The Board of Education should see that SFC and COL have your support, respect and trust to continue to work with your student.

Updates

May 10, 2016

I have spent my week meeting with school officials to demand answers about when SFC Gantt and Colonel Alvarado will return to their classrooms. The uncertainty in the hallways is weighing on everyone and these cadets deserve the stability of the leaders they actually trust.

Seeing this level of support confirms that our community knows the truth about what these men have poured into this program. Watching everyone rally for SFC Gantt and Colonel Alvarado gives me so much hope that we will get them back in the classroom where they belong.

Enlisted in the United States Air Force and currently transferring into army infantry. Prior student class of 2012. Was in the jrotc program. This program has done nothing but shape young students and motivate them to become better citizens. Hold the students accountable not the program leaders. There are just some bad students in the school.

Sergeant Gantt would never tolerate something like this. Part of the program is responsibility and it is understood that if you are alone you are supposed to conduct yourself if as if a leader is in the room. This is unacceptable and the students should be punished, not the Sergeant and Colonel

I pray that my Grandaughter's JROTC Program will remain as an integral part of her curriculum at ️Lenape High School. This is a fundamental for her, as well as the other Cadets who have conducted themselves with dignity and grace, and have accomplished so much, educationally and personally. Also their Competitions and awards have been amazing for these Cadets.

This program has helped my daughters get through high school. It has brought them to succeed in life. SFC is a father figure to both of my daughters and he has helped them flourish into what they have become. As I have seen over the years, so many individuals have grown because of this program. SFC Gantt and COL Alvarado were very influential towards all of these students.

This program has shown me as a cadet, student, and leader inner strength. It has given me a family and a sense of belonging in highschool which is rare to find. Colonel Alvardo and Sergenat Gantt are apart of that webbing and it would fall apart without their supports as teachers, leaders and mentors to past, current, and future cadets

While both the SAI and AI are responsible for issues pertaining to Jrotc and the students of the program, I don't believe removing the instructors and alienating the students that were not responsible for the actions of a small, reprehensible group is the way to correct the issue.
