We, the undersigned, in response to the sudden closure of Launceston's Minor Injuries Unit with no explanation, give notice to those responsible that we demand full disclosure of why this decision was made and by whom.
We further demand that the Minor Injuries Unit is reopened immediately.

So sad to see vital community services disappearing. There are families who cannot travel to alternative towns/cities for triage/treatment, and the strain on the ambulance service can means a wait of 8 hours+ before they can atttend. It’s heartbreaking.
It's absolutely ridiculous that the nearest MIU is approx 16 miles away. What do the people woth no transport do? You will now put more pressure on LMC which is already sending patients away as they are too busy if you can get through in the first place.
With the rising number of houses being built in Launceston, (3 more new estates) it’s narrow minded and to even contemplate removing the MIU from Launceston bearing in mind it takes 30 minutes to get to Liskeard and 45-60 minutes to get to Plymouth….
Full explanation is required as well as what is required to happen with timescales for reopening to occur. It leaves us very vulnerable in this area with waits what they are at Liskeard and Derriford currently. And people being told not to use 999 inappropriately!
I recently had to stitch a wound in my hand myself as there were no staff available at Launceston. The outcome may be very different for a young or vulnerable person. Without this critical local healthcare service. Please ensure this is reopened without delay.
Without the Launceston MIU ambulances are going to be called far more often. instead of calling an ambulance to Derriford for xrays when needed etc people go to Launceston miu. If you go to Derriford of an evening once the miu is closed you inevitably see people from this area there, so extended opening hours would be better , not closing it ! Even things like cuts, if ignored or not treated properly at an miu, because of no local miu , can lead to problems that then require more nhs treatment. The local doctors surgery will not pick up the extra work load, its barely possible to get an appointment anyway.
We need to keep this unit open. Launceston has no other nearby medical facility, because of its remoteness.

It has been a vital service for our town and surrounding villages for so long. It has saved me huge amounts of time and stress when needing my little boy to be checked over with head injuries. It’s been a god send to many and is being desperately missed presently.
