Request for the City of Manassas Mayor and City Council to relocate the proposed site of fire and rescue station #21. The proposed location is at 9650 Shannon Lane, in Lee Manor Park, adjacent to George C. Round Elementary School.

To: City of Manassas Mayor, City Council, City Manager, City Staff

By signing this instrument, I agree and represent that I have read, understand and agree with all of the foregoing statements:

We have recently learned that the City of Manassas has proposed to construct a fire and rescue station at 9650 Shannon Lane, in Lee Manor Park, adjacent to George C. Round Elementary School.

We are strongly opposed to the proposed location of fire and rescue station #21. If the fire and rescue station is built in the proposed location it will negatively impact our community for the following reasons:

1) Safety concerns for our children who walk or ride a bike to George C. Round Elementary School and/or play at Lee Manor Park and George C. Round Elementary School, 2) Loud noises fire trucks and ambulances generate, 3) Loss of parkland, 4) Reduction in home values and 5) Environmental concerns, due to the proximity of the creek

As a kid, I grew up with this park. It provided a positive, active outlet. It had such an impact on my life that it bothers me to think future children and families may lose it. Please save this park for the community.

This isn't in my backyard and I don't have kids attending the school but I agree that the proposed location is ill advised and alternate sites should be give more serious consideration.

I oppose having a fire department next to Round elementary school because my daughter usually walks in front of the proposed location...I strongly believe this will not be safe for our children and the noise will impact in their concentration during school hours.

To consider building a new fire station with existing homes on three sides and an existing elementary school on the fourth side is not a prudent choice. We currently have noise from the airport and the train - please do not add more. I join with others in requesting another site be chosen.

Was it not put into thought that the buses might be leaving while an emergency occurs? Or that there are long lines of cars waiting to pick their children up? This is an awful idea, buses won't be able to all easily move out of the way for a firetruck to get through, it easily makes the place a hazard spot.

Totally opposed to the proposed location for a fire station. Yes, we need one on this side of town. But not in a residential neighborhood. Surely, there is a parcel available on Godwin Drive closer to the DMV!!
