The Lewiston Pistol Club (LPC) seeks your support in asking the Lewiston City Council to continue to allow public access to Lewiston’s Indoor Pistol Range & Training Center (IRTC) located at 1419 16th Avenue. The IRCT is the only indoor public range where the citizens of Lewiston and surrounding communities can safely train and practice with their firearms.

Since 1983, the LPC has had a Use Agreement with the City of Lewiston (Resolution 83-95, 1983) to maintain and use the IRCT. Recognizing the importance of a publicly accessible indoor pistol range, the members of the LPC have served as faithful curators of the facility since 1983

On February 7, 2014, the Lewiston Pistol Club (LPC) received an eviction notice from the Lewiston Police Department. The notice gives LPC 60 days to remove all LPC property by April 1, 2014.

The Lewiston Pistol Club uses the indoor range to provide a wide variety of firearms related activities that are open to the public. These include pistol competitions, firearm safety classes ranging from the beginner to advanced topics including several courses that satisfy Idaho’s new Enhanced Concealed Carry Weapons permit.

We of the Lewiston Pistol Club ask that you show your support for the continuance of Lewiston’s only public pistol range and the LPC’s continuance as the stewards of the Indoor Range & Training Center by signing the petition below. We thank you for your time.

Updates

March 10, 2014

Legal counsel is currently reviewing the language of the eviction notice to identify specific procedural errors. We have requested a formal meeting with the city council to address these findings directly. I will provide a summary of their response once the official correspondence is received.

How can they use the building for evidence storage with all the lead with in the range. This could result in contamination of evidence.

Many of us have to travel to Lewiston from Moscow and surrounding areas to shoot indoors. When we do we also spend money at local restaurants, and other businesses. The range really does benefit Lewiston's economy.

Please consider the importance of this range for the community as a safe place to practice, train, and educate on hand gun use. I have found this range and the agreement we have had an invaluable resource.

it would not be there if not for the Lewiston Pistol Club.

The indoor pistol range is a valuable community service. The partnership between the Lewiston Pistol Club and the Lewiston Police department has always been an asset to both parties and should be continued. To turn the range into a storage room would be a very poor use for the facility.

It would be a shame to see a range used for storage.
