I call upon the Planning Commission to instruct Fairfax County to locate the Lorton Community Center in an alternate location and save Lorton Park which is the only park between I-95 and Richmond Highway in this area of Lorton. Eliminating 70% to 80% of the Park as currently planned, is inconsistent with the Park Authority's needs Assessment, the Comprehensive Plan, the Lorton Park Master Plan, and OneFairfax which calls for an "equitable distribution of park resources" throughout the county.
Locating the Community Center in an alternate Location not only would save this valuable park that serves as the "backyard" of the over 700 townhomes that surround the park, but it may reduce cost and will ensure that a much larger portion of the Lorton Community will be in close proximity to county services.
The parks and green spaces belong to the people in the community, the people who live here, the people who pay taxes here and who vote here. DO NOT take our green spaces and parks away. DO your jobs and find other existing venues and alternative options, of which there are many. Save ALL of the PARKS and GREEN SPACES in FAIRFAX COUNTY - and VOTE for those who will.
