Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority: Make DG Group's wetland destruction application public

The DG Group (formerly Metrus) has filed an application with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) to turn a 500 acre provincially significant wetland into a mobile home park.
To add insult to injury, the LSRCA has refused to make the application public and has stated that it is not interested in hearing from the public on this matter.
According to the “Conservation of Land” test, the LSRCA can only approve DG’s application if it will not have an adverse impact on the Paradise Beach-Island Grove provincially significant wetland in the North Gwillimbury Forest.
The public has the right to know the basis for DG’s claim that a 1,073 unit mobile home park won’t harm a provincially significant wetland. And the public has the right to tell the LSRCA why it believes that DG’s claim is not supported by good science.
Sign the petition and demand that the LSRCA make its decision making on this important issue transparent.

I am appalled by LSCRA's lack of transparency related to DG's application. Any government agency particularly a Conservation Authority whose mandate is responsible stewardship of protected areas, should be accountable to the public first and foremost.
Transparency is necessary. Why is the public being shut out from any discussions on this issue. Wetlands belong to everyone and should not be destroyed when there are other appropriate locations for building mobile home parks or subdivisions.
i grew up in simcoe and continue to visit regularly No one should use endangered wetlands & forests for trailer parks.. There is no need for this destruction.. If it's money you need .. Put in boardwalks and charge an admission!

The development is proposed to be on wetlands in the greenbelt. For good reason, both wetlands and the greenbelt are protected by provincial government. How can the LSRCA justify condoning such a scheme, especially when the LSRCA's sole purpose in life is conservation?
I'm in favour of science and democracy!
We cannot afford to lose any more wetlands in Ontario. A mobile home park is not worth the destruction of a provincially significant wetland.

Keswick. I have lost all confidence in the ability of LSRCA to look out for the environmental interest of this region. They obviously believe that deep pockets take precedence over the environment. Time for a change of leadership at LSRCA.
