We, the undersigned, want to see a new roller skating rink built as part of the So. Main St. Mixed-Use Project in Redwood City as a replacement for the closed and soon-to-be demolished Redwood Roller Rink, a well-used and beloved center of recreation, fun, and amateur sport for generations of families for over 60 years. This petition will be shared with Greystar Development Company and the Redwood City City Council as evidence of just how much a new roller skating rink would mean to the community, how much support it would have, and how popular such a facility would be on the San Mateo Peninsula.

I keep refreshing the page and my heart is honestly racing because we are just shy of that big triple digit milestone and I really need everyone to grab their phone right now and text someone who loves skating as much as we do so we can force the developers to actually acknowledge us.

I was checking the screen while trying to finish my coffee and my jaw practically dropped when I saw the jump in momentum this morning because honestly I never expected the reaction to be this fast. It just goes to show how much this place really matters to everyone around here and seeing all of you react this way makes me feel like we actually have a shot at keeping the rink alive.

I was at the skating rink three times a week with my family. We'd come from Sunnyvale, eat at the nearby restaurants and head in to skate. We'd be happy to bring those dollars back to Redwood City's new roller rink, if they built one. ;)
RRR was the last Peninsula roller rink and was a beloved home to many, including the Peninsula Roller Derby league and events such as Rainbow Skate, for years. What a joy it would be to bring it back! Wholesome exercise and fun for the whole family and the extended community.
Roller skating means so much to me and my family. I’ve met so many good friends at that rink. I went from learning how to skate to playing roller derby there. There is no where to skate anywhere in the Bay Area. People far and wide would travel to visit a new rink.
I grew up in redwood city and I'm now raising my kids here. It would be a wonderful re- addition to the main st. corridor. There's a dearth of family entertainment establishments on the Peninsula. Besides the movie theater there needs to be something else.
No, we cannot simply "just skate outside, instead". Redwood Roller Rink provided a community space for diverse skaters, particularly People of Color but also people with special needs and even fancy figure skaters who most certainly cannot "just go skate outside".

It’s so important to keep family activities alive in this area. This area is becoming a place of only high rents and corporate offices. We should have things that bring families and young people together in healthy ways.
