Local Politicians are urging the support of "customers" amid the closure of hundreds of post offices.
Local Postmen in Swinford might be moved to the post office in Castlebar and we can't allow that to happen. If the postmen from Swinford are sent to work in Castlebar post office we not only lose the best post men in our area but the post office in Swinford will close.

"I thought I should clarify in case mistaken there is no proposed plan for the post off ice to close in 2017. It is at risk certainly however with the good support of the customers my mom has this may be less of an issue. It is the plan for the postmen to move to castlebar and this is not requested by postmistress or postmen in fact they are opposing this centralisation of service as they are important part of the post office and of the community. The emphasis would be best placed on petitioning for the postmen to remain in swinford post office and no future move to castlebar to ensure our business's in the community try to remain in place and stay there"

Seeing the momentum grow honestly keeps me going when the days feel long and the path forward looks uncertain. I am exhausted by the fight but knowing I am not trying to keep our postmen here alone makes all the difference.

The feedback from the community has been heavy and I am spent from reading the concerns about our postmen moving to Castlebar. I am still working to get a response from local officials about why this centralization is being forced on us against our will. It is exhausting to keep pushing when the silence from the other side grows louder.

It would be a travesty for the people of Swinford if the post office were to close down especially for the older people living in Swinford who are unable to get to Castlebar to collect their pensions.
Recently moved to Culmore to retire from UK and local postal service has proved invaluable! In particular our postman Ambrose has been a great help - would not want to lose him.
Leave swinford alone. First it was the mart then the court house then the garda station now the post office. What's next the fire station the schools or even the church. Just stop now.
Under this government Swinford has lost its court house to ballina and it's garda station to claremorris. Now they want to move our post office to castlebar! When they come canvassing for your vote tell them to keep our post office open in Swinford.
These are a vital part of local community + need to be kept open, there are a lot of services people use through the post office + not everyone has access to transport or broadband!!

My Mum and Dad Anthony and Bridget Dempsey are in their 90's and their postman is often the only person they see in a day. They know him well and want the postal service to stay.
