Save the Birds: Killdeer nesting area threatened in Oswego!
January 18, 2022
Hello! Please be advised that a vacant property in Oswego, NY (Town of Scriba) is home to a population of Killdeer (Charadrius
vociferus) that nest on the ground. Someone is planning to build a structure and septic field there very soon
with no regard for these birds or their habitat.
- Their nesting area would be torn apart.
- A proposed leach field would pollute the habitat and nearby wetlands.
- Displaced Killdeer would never return to the area.
We need signatures on this Petition ASAP!
Additional info is available at: audio77@juno.com
We
have watched the Killdeer families for years. If you come too close,
they
pretend to have a broken wing to lure you away from their nest. Killdeer are
protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), and moving their
nests requires permission from the US Government. Violations of MBTA
include fines and imprisonment.
The Killdeer will be returning from migration in March 2022, only 6 weeks away.
We need to raise awareness and STOP this construction project.
Please sign the Petition!!!
Thank you, ~ Friends of the Biosphere
