Calling ALL past, current and future GEMSies and parents/guardians, families, communities:

We need you help!!! Our program has been on the balance with increasing concerns about whether or not transfers into the GEMS Program will be accepted and for the program to continue. Our EMS teachers and parents have already voiced their concerns to the district but we need to step up our efforts to the truly show how much this program means to all of us.

We, as parents are the best advocates for our children. Many of the kids in this program are transferred and the district may stop accepting these transfers. Kids in GEMS should be allowed to transfer for GEMS like any other high school program. This program is too special for not allowing kids who are capable of so much more to be a part of. The only way to win this battle is having us parents/students who has benefited from this program to speak up. We are the only ones that can make a change and have the school district listen. We want to bring this petition to the district to show them what the GEMS program means to us and any data to prove the value in keeping a program as special as this one available for our children. We must make our voices heard and “pay it forward” for the future of our children.

We want the school district to continue to allocate funding for the GEMS program and we to let them know how thankful what this program offers to all of us.

I believe the best way to ensure that we are allowed to continue as we have is for parents to speak up. The district public hearing that is coming up; it would be a terrific opportunity to have them hear OUR words. I hope many of you will show up and speak up.

If you have benefitted from GEMS after being given a transfer, I highly encourage you to attend and comment. (Refer to the district website or FB post for details.)

What YOU say DOES matter, especially a group of parents with strong evidence and a desire to keep the program alive for future gifted kids.
