Save the remains of UConn's Faculty Row
We, the undersigned, oppose the University of Connecticut's plan to demolish one or both of the remaining Brown Houses (Faculty Row) on its Storrs Campus. The buildings are listed as contributing resources on the National Register of Historic Places and are among the last vestiges of the agricultural college that laid the foundations for the current university. This latest proposal to destroy history comes just four years after UConn and the State Historic Preservation Office agreed to allow the demolition of 7 of the structures if 2 (3 and 4 Gilbert Road) were retained, rehabilitated and adaptively re-used. Now UConn proposes to destroy them for a 200,000sf residence hall. Please help us to save what remains of UConn's history and our state's collective heritage.
