TO: NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION (DEC) We, the undersigned, residents of the Town of Cortlandt do hereby protest the plan of the Consolidated Edison Company of New York to drain a lake located off of Furnace Dock Road in the Town of Cortlandt. (According to Con Edison officials the purpose in draining it is to relieve Consolidated Edison of New York from a financial obligation to repair and/or replace the dam at said location.) The undersigned believe that it would be detrimental to the established ecosystem as well as to the serenity and beauty of the area should this be allowed and we urge the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to require the repairs to the dam to keep the lake at its current water levels and whereas not to drain this lake (aka Rail Road Pond, Mill Pond).
