SaveOurKidsUtah.com: Right Project, Wrong Location
We are opposed to the current plan to build a chronically homeless facility on 3100 South and 3600 West in West Valley. We support finding housing for the homeless and the mission of the Housing Authority, but this is the wrong location. Hundreds of children walk past the site everyday because of the proximity to schools. Placing substance abusers, the mentally ill, and the chronically homeless on a major school route is a disservice to both the children and the patrons of this center. When the plan was originally presented to the planning commission in December of 2006, it was pitched as a "senior residential housing development". No mention was ever made of building a center for the chronically homeless, substance abusers, or mentally ill.
