save our nursery places
East Dunbartonshire Council are changing the way in which they provide funding for families with children aged 3-5. This means that whilst EDC remain committed to providing funding for every 3-5 year old it may not necessarily be in a nursery of their parents choosing. The Council now require private nurseries, with which they are in partnership with, to tender for the amount of places that they think they will need for the entire upcoming term at a price that they think will be competitive, with regards to other tendering private nurseries, and financially beneficial to EDC. It should be noted that EDC will still receive the full amount of £1596 for every child aged 3-5 years old from the Scottish Government regardless of what they sell this funded place for. We are a group of parents who are concerned that these changes will lead to private and voluntary sector nursery closures, a loss of choice and flexibility for parents and disruption for children. If we do not make our views heard now, the situation is only likely to get worse and nurseries will have to close. Please sign to make your objections to this policy heard.
