The news just came in that the Veteran's Village plan has been officially approved. I honestly never imagined we would get here, but this is entirely your achievement and not mine. Please take a moment to be proud of what you helped secure for our community.

A petition Adopt the \"veteran\'s Village\" plan for FDR VA Hospital. To THE SECRETARY OF THE VA Whereas: the services for veterans at FDR have all but a few been sent up to Castle Point VA.Almost all testing is now done there. Whereas:leasing the 167 acres to a for profit developer will not help veterans. In order for the developer to make a profit they will have to build high priced housing. Whereas: since the Hospital was built all of the buildings and all of the land was utilized by veterans. And it should be again. Whereas: the \"veteran\'s Village\"plan will use all existing buildings, bring back all services that have left, and add many more. Also there will be affordable housing, assisted living and senior care. Whereas: since there is a huge shortage of nurses in this Country, that problem would be settled by forming a nursing School at FDR which is already built in a College campus setting. Also the VA has for a long time not been able to attract Quality Doctors. We want FDR to be affilated with a Medical School, so we would have a large supply of young Doctors. Whereas: the Ron Tocci& Andy Spano have formed a not for profit group that will fund this project with State, County, and private funds. The campus would be a self contained Village for all veterans. This veterans Village will be a model for the other VA Hospitals to follow. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the people, Undersigned, being citizens of the United States and residents in the Cities and States so indicated, HEREBY demand that the VA Secretary immediatley implement the \"veteran\'s Village\" plan.

I have to admit that seeing 250 names on this list is completely overwhelming. I started this because I felt like I had to try, but the way you all have stepped up to support our veterans is truly breathtaking.

I am honestly stunned by how many of you care about our veterans and the future of this campus. This momentum belongs entirely to the people who refuse to let this land be handed over to developers. Thank you for showing me that we really can fight for what belongs to those who served.

167 acres is way too much to just hand over to a developer. lets actually do something good for the vets for once.

my grandpa went here for years and it was a lifeline. we cant let them sell this off to some greedy developer to build condos. keep it for the vets!

a nursing school on site makes perfect sense. fix the staffing issues and actually use the land for the people who fought for us. total no-brainer.

please save this facility. my brother relies on the specialized care there and it would be a tragedy to see it turn into luxury housing.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. STOP TURNING OUR VETERANS AWAY FROM THE CARE THEY EARNED AND DESERVE. VETERANS VILLAGE IS THE ONLY REAL OPTION.

FDR is a community staple. Castle point is too far for many elderly vets. bring the services back where they belong.
