Save Oxford School
We the undersigned are appalled that: 1) The Local Authority has been discussing plans to close Oxford School and replace it with an academy. 2) That it seems these discussions have been going on for some time and that plans are quite far advanced with sponsors already having been considered. 3) Discussions have left out significant stakeholders. 4) None of the unions representing teachers or other staff at the school have been consulted. Further, we do not believe the Local Authority has fully considered the devastating effect that the closure of Oxford School would have on the local community and the damage which could be done by replacing it with an academy. We are aware that recent research on academy schools has shown a wealth of problems which this decision does not take into account. We believe the Local Authority should take as its starting point the needs of local children, not national targets set by government. We are calling for a proper consultation of local people by local people, and for parents, staff and others to voice their opposition to these proposals.
