Mayor Johnson and his administration have decided to end the contract of the ShotSpotter technology. This technology leads officers to an area within 80ft of a detected gun fire. This technology is not meant to reduce gun fire but to assist officers in responding quicker to shots fired and render aide to a possible victim and to secure a crime scene.

The Johnson Administration has extended this technology only through the summer months and conveniently through the DNC. This Technology is 9 million a year and is paid through a cell phone tax. If this technology is eliminated money will have to be used for public safety through OEMC.

The 8th District Police Council is asking for your support as we push for the Johnson Administration to reconsider eliminating this crucial technology come September. The 8th District Police council with support of other local leaders is asking Mayor Johnson to keep this tool as part of the police department technology. This technology will help communities of all ethnic and social backgrounds. This tool will help officers respond to and help those in need when no one calls. We understand this tool is not perfect but no technology is perfect. We hope to gain enough signatures that Alderman who want to keep this vital to can to present to Mayor Johnson. Please sign this petition and let your voices be heard!
