Ms. Eva Cheng, JP, Secretary for Transport and Housing Hong Kong,
Mr. WAN Man Lung, JP, Dir of Highways (Acting) Mr. Daniel K.W. Chung, Deputy Project Manager / Major Works (2),
Dear Ms. Eva Cheng,
We are writing to express our concern over the plans for the Central-Wan Chai Bypass air-ventilation building in Central.
Despite rooftop greening, the airvents will blight the planned public landscape deck between IFC and the Central Ferry Piers as well as the public rooftop of IFC with noise and air pollution and hinder views of the harbour.
By allowing the IFC developer to break the ridgeline restrictions, Hong Kong has paid dearly for creating a rooftop which allows the public to enjoy open harbour views.
To create the large landscape deck for festive events, the Government has decided to forego land premiums and not to sell the area for hotel and commercial development.
Then why allow this to be blighted by the tunnel airvents? Your team has had sufficient notice of concerns over such infrastructure from the Harbour Enhancement Committee and the community at large.
i. We support the move of the exhaust tunnel/ventilation building to an area 200 yards north-west of the ifc where there is substantially less foot traffic and the structure is does not hinder anyone’s view
ii. We accept the delay this may cause.
