New Jersey College Democrats Support SCHIP!
We the undersigned call on Congress to override President Bush\'s veto of H.R. 976, a bill that would extend and improve SCHIP, the State Children\'s Health Insurance Program. SCHIP is an essential part of our health system, covering the healthcare needs of approximately seven million American children who lie just above the poverty line. The program is of particular importance to the state of New Jersey, where 15% of the population remains uninsured by either the private or public sectors and the state children\'s insurance program faced a $150 million shortfall in FY07. We commend those who voted for SCHIP, deplore the actions of President Bush and the three Republican New Jersey congressmen who voted against it, and demand that Congress override Bush\'s veto when it convenes on October 18, 2007.
