Scleroderma awareness in the Philippines focus on the patient's educational awareness, advocacy and mutual support programs for people with Scleroderma in the Philippines. The Scleroderma Society of the Philippines seeks the support of individuals and organizations to endorse the Scleroderma awareness program. You can sign-up on behalf of your organization, or as an individual. The more signatures we collect, the more we can demonstrate the weight of support for the people affected with this condition. Scleroderma or systemic sclerosis is a chronic disease of the immune system, blood vessels and connective tissue, scleroderma can attack many body systems. It is very hard to diagnose because each person may have a different combination of symptoms, and the disease progresses at different rates for everyone. One of the hallmarks is the thickening or hardening of the skin. Scleroderma can cause serious damage to internal organs including the lungs, heart, kidneys, esophagus, and gastrointestinal tract. As such, it is often referred to as a “multi-system” disease. It can be life-threatening. Scleroderma is three to four times more prevalent in women. This effort is a valuable opportunity for the public and the patients to have a better understanding of Scleroderma and help them cope with it through mutual support programs.
