The average motorist spends hours waiting in long construction lines costing our economy and residents thousands of hours in lost economic productivity.
Speedier construction and less traffic congestion on our streets would have a positive impact on the environment as it relates to emissions.
The City of Winnipeg Noise By-Law allows for work from 8AM-10PM and thus should be respected and off-peak hour construction should be only initiated on major and regional traffic corridors;
The use of evening and weekend construction is already used in cities such as Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, Grand Forks, all over the United States and the world, which in turn, has helped to reduce traffic congestion in their respective cities.
In signing this petition you agree that the City of Winnipeg should allow evening and weekend construction to speed up construction.
I am currently organizing the data to submit a formal request for a meeting with the Public Works Department. We are documenting specific project sites where off-peak scheduling could immediately reduce traffic congestion. Expect a full report once the department confirms a time to discuss these policy adjustments.

The current level of public interest provides the necessary leverage to formally request a meeting with the City of Winnipeg Public Works committee. I am drafting a proposal that outlines our specific requirements for expedited construction schedules on regional traffic corridors. Expect a report on the outcome of these initial discussions soon.
