Screen BR2049 in 2D at BFI IMAX

** UPDATE:**
Thank you so very much to every single person who signed our petition. I am pleased to say the BFI have agreed to show BR2049 and as a bonus Blade Runner Final Cut on the 9th of November as a back to back screening! My understanding is BFI had to negotiate with both Sony Pictures and Warner Bros to make this screening happen, so we are very very grateful to them for going above and beyond!
Naveed has also been offered tickets for himself and friends/ family as well as accommodation and travel arrangements by the BFI which we absolutely did not expect nor ask for so we are again super grateful to them for it! The BFI is a registered charity in the UK so please do feel free to donate if you wish!
The BFI will make this part of their normal programming so it will be available to book for the general public this Thursday 3rd October (12pm for BFI members and 4pm for general sale) so please keep an eye out on the BFI IMAX website. Once again thank you to each and every one of you for making Nav's wishes come true - From Nav, me and the IMAX Vanguard Community! Long live cinema!
**Please note we are not asking for ANY donation or money, the iPetition
website will ask before or after you sign and there is a small
clickable link on the donation page for you to skip it!**
As a member of the IMAX Vanguard community this petition is in support of community member Naveed Hafeez (KILLSHOT) who is under palliative care for heart, lung and kidney failure and has a prognosis of less than half a year. I and the rest of the community really hope and wish to persuade the BFI to consider screening Blade Runner 2049 2D later this year as part of Naveed's last wishes.
If you wish to know more about Naveed please see below, otherwise please sign the petition so we can convince the BFI!
Naveed is disabled and wheelchair bound and a simple visit to the best cinema in the country means getting physician approval, ordering routine and crisis medication, getting care and booking appropriate travel and stay - all of which is incredibly time and resource intensive. It takes Naveed at least one month to prepare for a visit.
Unfortunately for Naveed the lead times between announcement and screening for most non general release films are often under 6 weeks and is not enough to organise a trip.
He is a superfan of Denis Villenueve’s Blade Runner 2049 and of the IMAX format; during initial release he was not allowed by his consultant to attend the cinema due to his heart condition and associated tests that he was undergoing at the time. And again, unfortunately, due to his vision he is not able to tolerate 3D screenings and so could not attend last year’s 3D screening at the IMAX.
Our community was deeply moved when Naveed shared that he received a prognosis of approximately two years about 1.5 years ago and expressed his uncertainty about living to see the next year. We are committed to fulfilling his heartfelt wish to experience Blade Runner 2049 in cinemas at least once.
Cinema has the remarkable power to transform lives, and the BFI IMAX, as the largest screen in the UK, offers an unparalleled cinematic experience. We believe it is essential to make this experience accessible to as many individuals as possible, including those with disabilities like Naveed.
Finally we are NOT asking the BFI to do this for free as it is a charity itself; the community itself will buy a good proportion of the tickets as soon as they become available. And the wild success of Dune 2 and Dune has establish director Denis Villenueve to the masses and there is no doubt increased interest in his earlier works.
Please sign and help us persuade the BFI to screen the film one more time!
**THANK YOU whole heartedly to everysingle person that has
signed, we have reached our target despite what the progress bar says,
but please do keep sharing and signing, I will post an update on here on
the outcome as soon as I can!**
