Stop the Segregation of Special Needs Students in Lebanon Public Schools
We, the parents of Advocates for Lebanon Special Education, petition the Lebanon R-3 School Board to remove the special education students from the trailers on the Jr. High campus and place them inside classrooms in their respective elementary schools. We make this petition for the following reasons:
1. The students in these trailers are secluded from their "typical" peers. They are unable to learn the appropriate behaviors that elementary children are supposed to possess. The only behaviors they have to learn are those of other disabled students.
2. Typical students in the elementary schools are not able to learn how to interact with students who have disabilities. In essence, they are being taught to stay away from children who are different.
3. These trailers pose as health and safety issues, especially for children who have special needs.
By signing this petition, we agree that these trailers are not the appropriate educational setting for these children with special needs. We also agree that these students should be removed from the trailers and placed within their respective schools.
