The commissioners finally backed down and Coryea remains in her position. This win proves that the backroom deals of Carlos Beruff and his puppets cannot completely silence this community. Stay vigilant because we have to keep watching these people while they hold office.

The Issue: In 2019, Manatee County Commissioners unanimously confirmed Cheri Coryea as Manatee County Administrator.

Newly-elected commissioners Kevin Van Ostenbridge, James Satcher, and George Kruse joined incumbebt Vannessa Baugh to oust Coryea—the county's first female county administrator—without cause, just two days after the new board was seated.

It is no secret that developer Carlos Beruff wants Coryea fired and he has been extremely generous in his financial support of the newly-elected commissioners.

Silence is acceptance of the bully politics of Beruff. Signing this petition may not change the vote of the developer-funded commissioners. However, it will send a message that firing a county administrator that has worked her way up in our community and earned its respect is not acceptable.

Replacing the institutional knowledge, relationships and, above all, a competent professional who sincerely cares about our community cannot be done without unbudgeted cost, along with the irreversible damage that will be done to employee morale. Plus, what would be the message for a new administrator, that Carlos needs to get his way or he will get rid of you too? It is hard to imagine that these newly-elected commissioners, in just two days, have gained a significant enough understanding of county government operations to sack its top administrator.

Cheri Coryea has 30 years of experience working for this county, with 28 years of it in management. She became the deputy county administrator in 2017 after serving 10 years as director of neighborhood services. The county administrator is appointed by the board of county commissioners and is responsible for carrying out the policies and directives of the commission and for the development and management of the county's annual operating and capital improvement budgets.

The county administrator is also responsible for the supervision and management of department directors, and for ensuring that all agreements, leases and other contractual obligations of the commission are properly performed. The idea that a county administrator could be fired for simply carrying out the will of the board that sets policy, just because some people don't agree with the policies passed by our elected officials, sets a dangerous precedent.

The Petition: Manatee County Commissioners, by signing below we oppose the removal of the county administrator and urge the board to demonstrate professionalism. The county administrator is an important part of our community and has not shown any cause for termination. She has both our support and confidence.

One hundred people have finally had enough of Carlos Beruff pulling the strings of our local government. This is just the beginning of holding these commissioners accountable for bowing to developer interests instead of doing their jobs for the public.

The developer-funded commissioners think they can operate in the dark, but this influx of signatures proves that we are watching every move they make. I am currently digging into the backroom dealings between Carlos Beruff and the board to expose exactly why they are so desperate to purge professional leadership. Do not let these puppets believe for a second that we have forgotten their blatant disregard for the good of this county.

I have worked under 5 Administrators and 3 Acting Administrators for Manatee County. Cheri is proffessional, efficient, decisive, knowledgeable, hardworking, respectful, dedicated and supportive of staff. She is truly irreplaceable. The County Commissioners will quickly regret their actions if she is removed from her position as the leader of 1,900 employees and supervisor over 12 Department Directors.

I have had the opportunity to get to know Cheri Coryea in my work with an affordable housing non profit and in my 7 years in working for Manatee and local county government. She was my department director in Neighborhood Services for several years. This is a woman who has never lost sight of what it means to serve as a government leader. She is deeply committed to her community and to the many employees who work alongside her. Proven local leadership and years of dedicated public service in Manatee County... and I truly want to emphasize the service part because she exemplifies the kind of servant leadership that is diminishing in so many aspects of our society... we need to retain Cheri Coryea for a better Manatee County in years to come.

Mr. McClash Here Here! You know it! I cannot believe they are attempting to even railroad her like this. Thank you for sticking up for someone who more than deserves it. I miss my Manatee County family. I loved working for you all and for the citizens. Cheri has always done what is right for the county. She does not deserve this treatment. I implore those citizens who voted for the 4 county administrators who voted for this action, take a breath and take a look at the job she has done. Please do what right and keep Cheri in the Administrative seat.

This is what happens when the wrong people are elected! What have these Trumpsters learned about Ms. Coryea in 50 hours of service? What has she done wrong in their estimation? Ms. Coryea has devoted 30 years of her life to us and this coup will NOT be tolerated. They have an agenda. And if this was decided by these four before the meeting; this is in direct violation of the Sunshine Law. People rise up!

Anyone willing to join forces with Beruff is not looking out for the best interest of this community. He surrounds himself with flying monkey's and cares about nothing but making the most money at everyone else's expense. Just ask the residents in Cross Creek. Unethical practices doesn't even scratch the surface of what he and his minions have done to this one neighborhood and now he's looking to own all of our politicians so he can rake all of this County over.

Why ?? I don't know Cheri personally, I had spoken to her about a brief meeting . It never came to pass because of Covid, but she was efficient, courteous and prompt in her responses . Her resume can't be topped and once again I have to question WHY ??

It seems to me that the three new commissioners and Vanessa Baugh were in cahoots the whole time and committed collusion. Cheri has put in over 30 years of service to our county, and these three commissioners on the job for 2 days along with Vanessa Baugh vote to fire her without cause. This is unacceptable and won’t be tolerated. This is a criminal activity. It seems like these 4 are Trump wannabes. You know where this got Trump, out of the Presidency and possibly into jail time. Maybe these 4 should follow Trump right into jail. And Vanessa Baugh posted a controversial tweet on social media. I thought commissioners were not allowed to do that. Isn’t that a violation of the sunshine law. The three new commissioners and Vanessa Baugh need to resign immediately or be forced out. They are unacceptable and this what they did won’t be tolerated..
