Representatives Nate Gentry and Daniel A. Ivey Soto are looking to introduce legislation during the upcoming New Mexico Legislative Session that would require children to submit proof of registering in the military if they choose not to go to college or enter into an internship.
This is a roundabout way to have New Mexico's own version of a draft. Forced military service is the very opposite of freedom. With our politicians sending our troops into senseless wars and military conflict for nothing more than nation building, regime change, and political agenda & greed, do we really want to allow our state legislators to force our children into the military to send them off to risk their lives for political agenda? I know I don't
I've started this petition as a means to show our legislators and Representatives Gentry and Soto that the citizens of New Mexico are against HB 23 and forced military service. If you want to help us stop this awful legislation please feel free to sign our petition and share it with your friends. This must be stopped before our children are forced to risk their lives for the desires of war hungry politicians.

As a parent, I try to raise my child so that she can learn to make her own decisions for her life as an adult. This micromanaging of people's lives needs to stop.
This bill would create a diploma to die for---literally! I oppose any form of forced servitude for a high school diploma just as I oppose any for of slavery.
Nate you should know better this is Unconstitutional and not legal. Read our State Constitution Article IV and please had out copies to your cohorts.
This is not right to force young people to make a choice to either go to college/trade school or Military?? You don’t make those decisions for my kids.
We DO NOT have a Draft in the country, and NO state can FORCE a person into military service!
The bill leads to forced military service for our young people. It needs to be well thought out. Why does New Mexico need a state draft or conscription.
This is complete governmental over reach and a means for government to further control the lives of the citizens. This bill should be stopped in it's tracks and never get through the legislative session.

This is an abuse of power and will do nothing to fix our myriad educational and employment issues. The state has no business telling adults what to do once they complete high school, and the vast majority of high school graduates are 18, and, therefore adults. Legislation should fix problems, not create more.
