In the past five (5) years Grenada has been seeing an increase in abuse and violent acts to women and student-aged boys and girls. As of 2012, Grenada was ranked 3rd in Latin America and the Caribbean for female homicide (Ciara Byrne, Fast Company blog). Offenders appear to be given "slaps on the wrists" as it seems that inadequate penalties are meted out in order to deter such behaviour or protect victims.
As such, we, the concerned citizens of Grenada, humbly request that stiffer penalties and stricter sentences are meted out to the perpetrator of sexual and other domestic abusers.
Let us end this vicious cycle and protect our women and children.
judges, Lawyers, Rank n File police officers, Government officials, medical health professionals, Church & Community leaders, From captain to cook, all man jack, toute bagaii all need to get on board with this movement/awareness. We are loosing too many of our children to something that WE, as a society can put a stop to. Its a mental health issue, a criminal issue, a tradition, a sickness. Whatever it is, let's address it together and expose it as much as possible, on every level.
