The district officially walked back the plan to close our neighborhood schools this morning. I am shaking with relief knowing our kids get to keep their classrooms and teachers. Thank you for protecting the heart of our beach community when it felt like no one else was listening.

DCPS is proposing the closing and consolidating of our beaches elementary schools - San Pablo Elementary, Seabreeze Elementary, Neptune Beach Elementary and Atlantic Beach Elementary Schools. If the master plan moves forward it would elminate our beloved K-5 schools and move to a "mega school" model. This would have negative impacts on our children, families, school funding and city infrastructure.
On March 11, 2024, an updated plan was presented at a DCPS workshop, that would close and consolidate our schools. The reasoning behind is to "right size" the DCPS district and mitigate rising construction costs amid the $3.9 Billion deficit.
If the latest proposal is accepted ABE, SBE, Mayport and Anchor Academy would close. A new K-8 ES would be built on the current SPE site and Mayport Middle would turn into a K-8.
There is little evidence supporting the advantages of K-8 over K-5. In addition to the rising concerns of student outcomes, safety, traffic, funding, and cost of the plan versus renovations.
We need our neighborhood schools that serve our communities. San Pablo, Seabreeze, and Atlantic Beach are all A schools and all operate over 80% capacity. In addition all have been deemed schools of excellence.
Please consider signing even if you do not have children who attend these schools, if you are a beach resident this will effect you! At the very least by Increased traffic, need to build new roads and infrastructure, etc.

I have spent my week looking at the traffic impact studies and talking to urban planners about what a mega school will actually do to our neighborhood streets. The silence from the district remains deafening but your stories about why our local classrooms matter keep me fighting.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that our community will not sit by while they threaten the schools where our children grow up. My own kids are terrified at the thought of losing their home away from home and this support gives me the grit to keep fighting for them.

I have a Seabreeze Elementary school volunteer for the past three years. My granddaughter’ attends this wonderful school. Please protect all of our schools. K-8 is not a good school design with too much of a developmental divide.
Do not close anchor Academy. Anchor Academy has a special connection with the military child that other schools do noplease understand military child have enough stress in their lives every 3 years. They don't need to be moved from their school.
Seabreeze is located in the middle of South Jacksonville Beach keeping us all connected. It is the type of neighborhood school that we don’t have much of anymore reminding us of what is really important in life and a true family. We voted for the additional tax after being told it would better our schools. If Seabreeze is taken away, I believe it would change the morale of the area. Please keep our school!!
I think it’s a bad idea. Some classes are already too big as it is and the existing schools aren’t equipped to take on that. Plus it will take away the teachers one on one time from students. Also consider how much worse the traffic is going to be at said schools
As a Jax Beach resident, a parent of a current 4th grader at SPE, and of an up and coming sea turtle who is currently in vpk at the Wee School I vehemently oppose the school board's absurd plan. To combine k-8th grade, as well as the closure of our multi generational family schools in OUR beaches neighborhoods… are simply just a few reasons this is the most ridiculous and flat out STUPID of all STUPID ideas DCPS has ever uttered. Shame on DCPS and the school board.

I went to K-6th elementary & transferred in 7th-8th middle school on way to 9th-10th High School. These are completely different environments and to consolidate is to punish children at these young ages.
