South Petherton Library is under threat of closure because the County Council considers it to be too expensive and too small. The alternative being offered is a "Community" Library, run by volunteers in a location that is not yet decided without a professional librarian, no interlibrary loan service, no new books and no connection to the wider library network and limited if any supporting funding.
We want Somerset County Council to know we want to keep a REAL library, the high quality professional support we get now - the lively accessible environment in the middle of our village that is a life line for so many residents.
There is a file of background information in the Community Information Centre together with a list of people willing to volunteer - drop in and sign up!
