Stand Against a Sober Home at 103 Caroline Street
This is to inform the neighborhood of the strong likelihood that a Sober Living Home is looking to set up in our quiet piece of New Bedford. As you may be aware, 103 Caroline St. better known as the Caroline Chapel was sold on Wednesday 1/31/2024. What you may not be aware of is that the purchasers are not a quiet couple, a growing family, or someone looking to put down roots in our community. No, it's a corporate entity known as NEWLIFE LLC based out of Burlington, MA. A corporation that appears to be part of an out-of-town Real Estate Buying Company with its founders owning over 600+ properties. Have a look for yourself by visiting their website at newlifellcproperties.com.
NEWLIFE LLC promotes No Upfront Costs! They're willing to fund 100% of the purchase and rehab of the next sober living facility, as well as operations that are already in existence and looking to expand with no capital. After the purchase, they simply lease the property back to the operators to “run as they wish”... As they wish! That has me worried and it should have you worried as well, because once the property is bought and rehabbed NEWLIFE LLC leaves our community only to collect their payday. If that's not one of those out-of-town landlords
that we’ve been hearing about, then I don't know what is. The downside of this has multiple implications. Some properties under NEWLIFE LLC have had multiple code violations, unpermitted construction, and 47 calls of service that have involved a police presence. We just can’t sit back and hope this doesn’t happen here.
We need to come together and call upon our Elected Officials and see if they will fight for us as hard as they did when outfits like this were coming to affluent Ward 5 neighborhoods.
We must all take a moment to call the Mayor's Office at 508-979-1410 and our City Council Office at 508-979-1455 to voice our opinions about the strong possibility of this becoming a reality in our peaceful neighborhood.
