We, the undersigned,

Regret that the abolition of Reading Week has resulted in a shorter term, with less time for student respite and reflection;

Object to the unusually dense concentration of deadlines and internal assessments of this past term that we feel have resulted in a much more stressful learning experience with less opportunity for critical reflection on course content and increased anxiety in the student body;

Fear that the new semester structure has undermined our ability to pursue the extracurricular activities that form an integral part of the renowned St Andrews student experience;

Welcome that this change to the academic calendar has resulted in the scheduling of exams for before the Christmas Break; and,

Understand the many logistical difficulties inherent in scheduling the term dates, which limit University action;

Therefore, we the undersigned,

Call upon the Students’ Representative Council to lobby the University to ameliorate these concerns in the short term with the ultimate goal of the restoration of a Reading Week in the long term.

Makes zero sense to cut the one week we actually have to catch up on reading.

The workload this term is actually insane. How are we supposed to keep up and keep our heads on straight without a break?
