- With the rise of men’s volleyball, I strongly urge the school board to create a boy’s volleyball team at Tabb High School. We should have a say in what sports we want here at our schools. Recently, the Middle schools have created a girls volleyball program which has boosted interests and numbers for the high schools. The Middle school can create a girls volleyball team, but we can’t start a boys volleyball program? Volleyball is one of the least expensive sports to fund. We already have enough players to make a competitive team. We also have the financial support of those student’s parents. We could put it to great use for starting a new, successful program for boys. Boys volleyball is the number one growing sport on the Peninsula. Girls have JV and Varsity volleyball teams, why cant we? We can provide all equipment and funding. The school only needs to provide the gym.
According to the NFHS, over the last 5 years, boys volleyball has grown 15.7% in participation rate and is 2nd nationally behind only indoor track & field.
