Somerset has proposed building a new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) K-8 school for Parkland, FL. The school will have 1280 students in K-8. If approved, the school will be opening for Fall of 2018 school year. Somerset has a long history of providing high quality education across the nation, with a focus in Florida. In most counties in Florida the Somerset charter school out performs traditional public schools in the same community. Somerset is known for STEAM programming (their Miami Dade campus has earned the gold standard in STEAM), their hands on approach to learning and for bringing evidence based programming to their schools (such as Project Lead The Way).

Parkland is a rapidly growing city with a significant amount of new construction. Some new construction communities have not fully been completed and others have not yet broken ground. Our current schools are near, at, or exceeding capacity and unfortunately the county has definitively declared that they will not be building another school in Parkland until the 23,000 vacant seats in the county are filled. As our population grows we need to ensure our children are able to attend school in Parkland. Somerset Parkland Academy solves this problem. It will be a brand new, state of the art school in our community with space for 1280 children. But best of all no child will be rezoned or re-boundaried. If you do not want to send your child there, you do not have to, but it provides educational options for families and alleviates an educational problem in our community that the county is not willing to solve.

Somerset Parkland Academy will have programming for ESE students and GEM students. It will utilize Project Lead The Way, a nationally recognized STEM program and incorporate hands on learning techniques. The school will have a state of the art science lab, 14,000 square foot gymnasium, library, basketball court, field, courtyard, 2 multi-purpose rooms and cafeteria in addition to classrooms.
