Final supporters
Skyscrapers are being built without consideration of how they will affect their surrounding communities. We hereby demand that the City of New York impose a moratorium on construction or enlargement of any building higher than 250 feet unless and until an environmental review is conducted. An environmental review would ensure that any adverse environmental impacts caused by construction and/or enlargement of buildings would be evaluated before work begins and before causing harm to surrounding neighborhoods and the people who live there.
In particular, we are most concerned about, among other things:
- whether neighboring schools, subways, buses and other City infrastructure can absorb the stresses created by increases in population density caused by the addition of hundreds, if not thousands, of new residents;
- whether new or enlarged buildings will create shadows across public sidewalks, playgrounds, streets and parks;
- whether the additional excavation typically required for creation of skyscrapers and other tall buildings will result in the release of carcinogenic chemicals, airborne particulates and other toxic substances into surrounding communities;
- whether there will be noise pollution, damaging vibrations, and other construction impacts that disrupt surrounding neighborhoods; and
- how the new or enlarged buildings will affect the look and feel of our neighborhoods, including the views we have, the parks we use, and the air we breathe.

Excessively tall buIlding need to be curtailed. They change th character of the neighborhood, increase population density beyond what schools, parking, and city services can accommodate. These include policing, subway and bus, and garbage service. Please create a more transparent procedure and limit new construction to about 250 feet. Thank you
The City is losing its character, blocking sunlight, and removing any sense of neighborhood. The buildings are simply too big and impersonal. No small stores can afford the rents and we are over-run with banks and drug stores!
The second ave subway was built to relieve the Lex line and bus lines. Now with additional building there will be further tax on the overtaxed transport system on the upper east side. It is overcrowded now.
I live on the UES and a massive tower is about to be built right across the street from my apartment, blocking out the sun from my place. This new building will be twice as tall as anything in the area. This is wrong in a residential neighborhood that has few buildings over 25 stories!
Make sure the builders handle the hazardous soil from the 3 dry cleaners that were on that block, First ave, from 79'th-80th sts. sincerely, 340 East 80'th st. Apt 18J, NY, NY 10075

Parks are put in shadow, the character of neighborhoods is lost and affordable housing is destroyed to build unneeded and extremely expensive replacements.
