Dear Ben Carroll MP (Victorian State Minister for Education), Jason Clare MP (Federal Minister for Education), and Lizzie Blandthorn MLC (Victorian State Minister for Children),

We the undersigned write to you from a place of alarm, shock and fear. A teacher from Prahran High School, Mr Jason Wong, has been captured on video on Channel 9 at a Pro-Palestinian rally in Melbourne on 17 December making the following statement via loud speaker: "Hamas is doing exactly what they have to do". See link here: https://x.com/9newsmelb/status/1736292224986489333?s=46&t=WpeuBmaYYkCSLLnAUQOWnQ

This is clear and irrefutable support of the Hamas terrorist organisation and praise for what Hamas did on 7 October. If you are not aware of the events that took place in Israel on that day, Hamas terrorists invaded Israel and intentionally, systematically massacred, mutilated, raped and tortured around 1,500 civilians (non combatants - elderly, women, children, babies, whole families), and kidnapped 250 more. Hamas is listed as a terrorist organisation by the Australian Government. The Hamas Charter openly calls for the destruction of the state of Israel and states it is the duty of Muslims to kill Jews. I invite you to read it for yourself https://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/hamas.asp. As clearly stated in the first paragraph of the Charter: “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it".

Article 13 of the Charter states: “Initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences, are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement."

"There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.”

Mr Wong has carried out a hate crime, he is inciting hatred and violence. He is unfit to be in a teaching position, imagine how the Jewish students would feel? There has been a 500% increase in anti-semetic incidents in Australia since 7 October and it is actions such as Mr Wong's that are fuelling the aggression and hysteria. There have been so many Pro-Palestinian rallies in the past 10 weeks and a number of them have been organised by teachers. With teachers now coming out with these hateful, violent comments publicly, now is the time to take action against the glorification of terror, against hate speech, hold individuals accountable and punish them. Enough is enough. The police and governing authorities must shut this down before more incitement to hatred is carried out. We've already seen what happened on the steps of the Sydney Opera House with the chants "gas the Jews" just a day after the 7 October Hamas attacks in Israel.

It is against the law to urge violence and advocate terrorism:

"It is an offence to counsel, promote, encourage or urge the doing of a terrorist act or the commission of a terrorism offence where the person intentionally engages in the conduct and is reckless as to whether another person will engage in a terrorist act or commit a terrorism offence." https://www.ag.gov.au/national-security/australias...

We request that the relevant authorities investigate whether Mr Wong has carried out a criminal offence.

For the safety of our society, action must be taken against him and all individuals who praise the intentional, targeted murder of non combatants. We ask you, from the Education Department, to take the following action:

  • Immediate dismissal of Mr Wong's teaching role from any school in Australia and removal of WWC certificate. Mr Wong is not fit to be working with children or youth.
  • Release a public statement concerning the above actions as an example to other Pro Palestinian protestors and teachers who openly praise terrorism.

Thank you for your support.

If you are going to teach in depth understanding of the history and encourage students to make informed judgements I applaud you. Your job as a teacher is not to indoctrinate or impose your views on school kids, on any subject, including this one.

It is a very scary day when teachers in Australia think is okay to praise terrorist organizations that call for genocide. Politics does not belong in the classroom especially when the ideas preach and breed hate and diversity rather than tolerance and inclusivity.

I am absolutely disgusted that a teacher can promote such hatred and endeavour whereby he can condone the barbaric acts on over 1200 innocent victims. If this behaviour is a reflection of the education department then we as a nation need to be concerned.

Unfurtunately this is how a generation of antisemitism can emerge, through indoctrinating young individuals who lack knowledge of Israel's geographical location on the world map, as well as the historical context surrounding Israel and the Palestinians.

Hamas is a proscribed terrorist organisation in Australia and most of the western world. How a teacher can praise such an organisation is beyond comprehension. He should not only be fired but investigated for being a terrorist sympathiser.

The teacher pupil power imbalance demands that teachers remain apolitical. Teachers have a powerful position of influence and as such must remain impartial. Parents may discuss politics with their children but no one else has that right.
