The local planning department has formally rejected the application for the mast on Elmers End Green. This outcome preserves the historic character of this space for everyone who visits it. I am deeply appreciative of the quiet resolve that defined this effort.

Do you know about the planning application to put an 18m high telecoms mast at the corner of Elmer's End Green?

The mast would be right on the corner with Croydon Road and half as high again as the tallest tree on the Green. The location would be extremely intrusive and make the Green an ugly place for everyone. The Green has been here 300 years!

  • The Green is protected as Urban Open Space (UOS). The council’s policy is that any development on UOS must be related to the existing use or be small scale – clearly not the case here..
  • This mast would be half as tall again as the tallest tree on the Green. There would also be three large cabinets at the base.
  • The visual impact of this mast and its cabinets would be severely detrimental. The view of Elmer's End approaching from Beckenham would be totally dominated by this installation giving a very poor impression of Elmers End itself.
  • The location is just feet away from the Elmer's End sign and history plaque.
  • LB Bromley are investigating improving the Green by removing the gyratory (one-way) system to open up the Green to provide a better leisure area.
  • Such a huge mast should be sited where it is not so visually intrusive – there are several light industrial areas in the vicinity where the mast would not be as noticeable.

Completely out of scale with the surrounding area. If one is really needed, it should be placed near the industrial units (Tesco, Screwfix or Magnet Kitchen areas) next to the railway line in the Elmers End Station area.

As stated in the declaration, there are more than enough light industrial sites within the locality, why is there a need to plonk it slap bang in the middle of the one large visible open space? Then the also could be the object on the grounds of wave radiation in a residential area, opposite a doctor’s surgery! No, it’s not on.

A totally intrusive structure on a piece of green land in an otherwise residential and commercial area which appears to go against the local Council's proposal to provide an improved leisure area.

I strongly object to the telecom mast on Elmers End Green. The Green is a local landmark and part of the history of the area. We should be protecting our history and not destroying it. It will be unsightly and completely out of place. If a telecom tower is needed in the area, it should be sited on an industrial area.

We don't like unsightly, culturally heavy handed brutalist in the Elmers End community and a public area, to boot. The green has 300+ years of history. No vandalism here.

If such a mast is necessary it could be located elsewhere - somewhere on the former sewage farm, for example? The pretty green at Elmers End with its flower beds is highly inappropriate for such an installation and a central point at Elmers End

I oppose this being erected in this location. I don't feel this is needed, with phone signals locally very strong and would look ugly and out of place on an otherwise historic piece of land.

This local historic area must not be vandalized with this , in my opinion, unessary construction. An alternative site ,if deamed necessary, must be found.
