Stop the North Kildare Ambulance Cuts
From the 6th of September 2012 there has been no ambulance serving the
North Kildare area from the Maynooth base from 7am to 7pm every
Thursday. This is part of the first wave of new cuts being implemented
by the HSE and Dr James Reilly, Minister for Health. These cuts will
mean that response times for ambulances will increase, a decision that
will put lives at risk. A group of local residents opposed to these cuts
met on the first week of September in the Glenroyal Hotel and have held protests and meetings in Maynooth, Leixlip and Kilcock.
We as a group feel the next step in the
campaign to reverse these cuts is to collect a petition of those living,
working and studying locally to call on Dr. James Reilly to reverse
these cuts. We also stipulate explicitly that these cuts must not be
shifted to some other area, the relatively small cost of having an
ambulance on standby for 12 hours is nothing in comparison to the
billions at Minister Reilly's disposal and a drop in the ocean in
comparison to the huge sums of money being used to bail out the
bondholders.
If local residents are interested in obtaining a copy of the petition to distribute amongst their friends and family or are interested in being kept up-to-date on developments in the campaign please leave an email address or phone number. This information will not be distributed publicly or used for any other purpose other than to inform you about this campaign.
