Stop the Seneca County Casino
The New York State Gaming
Facility Location Board is currently deciding on where to site four new casinos
in Upstate NY.
One of the locations
under consideration is in Seneca County. If they choose Seneca County for a
casino location, it would seriously
threaten the regions economic revival. The decision by the Gaming Location
Board could be as soon as next month, so we need to take action immediately to stop
it.
Right now, four major casinos are closing in Atlantic City because there are simply too many of them to succeed. There, the state promoted unbridled casino growth and ended up cannibalizing the businesses, costing the state billions, laying off thousands of workers and ruining the local economy. The same thing could happen here with more local casinos.
We want economic
development in the region, but we don’t want cannibalization where one town’s
interests are pitted against another. Siting the Lago Resort and Casino in
Seneca County will do just that. A Seneca County casino will bring limited new
tax revenue to the state and take jobs away our community and negatively impact
existing regional economic revival.
Local leaders like Oneida County
Executive Tony Picente are strongly opposed to a Seneca County casino.
County
Executive Picente believes, a Casino in Seneca County is, “not good for the
economy or any of us and I would oppose it strongly.”
· More gaming threatens local economic revival and our jobs.
· We don’t want to suffer the same fate as Atlantic City.
·
Don’t pit neighboring communities
against one another for economic growth.
Thanks for your efforts and help.
