We The People have united to abolish the senseless act of hunting Black Bears. We denounce the act of killing such a wise and intelligent animal in the name of sport. There is no need or necessity for any one to hunt or kill a bear for food or as a “sport”. Together we unite to do what ever is necessary by law to preserve the Black bear and stop this senseless slaughter. A professor at Rutgers University has shown in an in-depth study that when non-lethal programs are used to control bears, (such as proper garbage storage) nuisance incidents drop significantly. There are a team of Veterinarians and Vet Techs willing to volunteer to neuter the males to control the bear population.
The facts are as follows:
Black bears are among North America’s slowest
reproducing land mammals. New Jersey’s bear population was all but wiped out by hunting in the 1970’s. Their population has only
recently recovered. This cannot happen again!
Additionally, no one in the written history of New Jersey has ever been killed or seriously injured by a black bear.
You are…
•45 times more likely to be killed by a dog
•247 times more likely to be killed by lightning
•120 times more likely to be killed by a bee
•60,000 times more likely to be murdered by
another human being…than to be killed by a black bear.
Therefore we demand that this senseless cruel act of hunting these beautiful creatures as "Trophies" be stopped!
This Petition will be sent to Governor Chris Christie and all NJ representatives.
