Stop the Cuts! Sussex Needs Student Advisors
This is a petition initiated by the Student Law Body in relation to the university wide cuts proposed by the governance of the University of Sussex: namely, those of our Student Advisors. The Body is hereby expressing the extreme discontent and concern of the whole student community. While until this time, we have refrained from protest and have acknowledged the budgetary and administrative reforms of the University, this is an aspect we are not prepared to accept. The reasons for this are simple: without Student Advisors a large number of students will find themselves without the necessary aid and support in cases related to illness, financial troubles and academic difficulties. It is known to us that there are numerous forms of support at the University; including, Residential Advisors, the Career and Employability Centre and the Health Centre. Nevertheless, they are already optimally if not maximally subscribed and cannot be an effective replacement or substitute for the Advisors assistance, which experience has shown to be invaluable to a great number of students. Finally, it is also suggested that without their support the consequences will be critical, with the effect that the university dropout rate increase and its overall reputation will suffer. This petition will be sent to as many students and employees as possible at the University within the next two weeks.
