As a citizen of the United States and a Resident of Glynn County I am signing this petition as a formal protest against the expansion now planned for the Glynn County Detention Center/Jail located in Brunswick, GA. It is counter to the master plan for revitalization of Downtown Historical Brunswick. It is an abuse of power by the County to enact Eminent Domain for a jail and to remove citizens from their homes. The County and City hired and paid for with tax payer dollars for a study to be done on what to do with the jail. This study DID NOT propose this solution. The County Commissioners and the City Commissioners need to answer to the Citizens why they have refused to follow the advice they sought and take a path that was not agreed to by the outside contractor nor by the Citizens of Glynn County. THIS PETITION IS BEING SIGNED TO STOP THIS EXPANSION AND FOR THE COMMISSIONERS TO HOLD OPEN HEARINGS INCLUDING THE CITIZENS TO DETERMINE THE BEST LOCATION FOR A JAIL IN THIS COUNTY. WE DEMAND THIS EXPANSION STOP IMMEDIATELY.
