Stopping the Separation of Families at the US Border
June 19, 2018
Donald J. Trump
President of the United States of America
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, DC 20500
The Honorable Donald J. Trump:
We, the undersigned members of the clergy, pen this letter to you with urgency to ask for your immediate cessation to the separation of families at the United States Border.
Keeping families together and family unity is a value we strive for in our faith communities each day. Through counseling, offering support systems in community and providing spiritual nourishment, we endeavor to bring each soul closer to God and one another. This separation of families process undermines these efforts and tears at the fabric of our beliefs and the core foundation of our country.
Jewish leaders have haunting memories stirred when they see children separated from their parents. The heart-wrenching cries of fear from these young and innocent people remind us of dark chapters in our past.
Faith leaders of all backgrounds share a common denominator of children being our light and our hope for a good future. This separation and “zero-tolerance” policy extinguishes that light and dims that hope. Our world needs light and hope now more than ever.
Mr. President, we implore you to use the powers of your office, find good grace and offer kindness to change this policy immediately. Let it inspire our country and our world.
Respectfully,
