To my fellow Lloyd Harbor School students:

My name is Mason McLain and I am in class 4M. I am writing because I believe that we need more outdoor recess time.

1. It is a proven fact that the more time that kids have at recess they focus better in class. At outdoor recess you can run around and get some blood flow, but in indoor they don’t let you run around and get blood flow. My mom and I researched how outdoor recess can help kids do better in school. I learned that kids get better grades, do better on tests, focus better, and are less disruptive for teachers after exercising outside. The articles we found are below.

2. If the lunch ladies feel or see one drop of snow or rain it is automatically indoor recess. Did you know in Norway, there is a saying: “There’s no bad weather, only bad clothes.” When your parents including mine had recess, they got to go out in the snow and rain, sometimes they just had to dress for the weather. Outdoor is a lot better for you because you can get fresh air in your lungs instead of AC air in your lungs. When we are indoors, it is not the same.

3. Two recesses would definitely help us at Lloyd harbor school focus better in class. When kids walk in from the recess doors 99% of the time kids are still talking to each other about things they could have been talking about at recess. We are supposed to have 20 minutes of recess, but they ring the bell at the 15 minute mark so we have 5 minutes to line and clean up. So we don’t even get 20 minutes. We have soooooo much property at Lloyd harbor school and they only let us use less then half of it.

All of this is why I believe that at Lloyd harbor school WE NEED MORE OUTDOOR RECESS AND MORE RECESS TIME!!!!! If you agree with me and want to help me, please sign my petition.
