Support Cleveland Circle -- Build in Boston
Petition Marty Walsh, Mayor of Boston, and the Boston Redevelopment Authority to endorse a Boston-only redevelopment project on the Circle Cinema-Applebee’s site in Cleveland Circle.
This project has been stalled since May of 2011 when Brookline passed special zoning for the slice of project land located in Brookline, dictating critical aspects of Cinema-Applebee’s redevelopment including overall site design, tax revenue allocation and traffic management. Brookline zoning put a planning stranglehold on a site that is 84% in Boston, imposing a long list of building restrictions and requirements on Boston land. Instead of opposing Brookline’s grab for development revenues, the BRA has sided with Brookline by not allowing a Boston-only project to go forward.
It is time for the City of Boston to take back its rightful control of Cleveland Circle development. BDG, the project developer, has stated at public meetings that it is willing to build a hotel, retail and residential project entirely on Boston land. A Boston-only project is the best fit for this site and the best solution for Cleveland Circle. Build it in Boston!
