Albemarle County Schools has partnered with a tower developer (Milestone Communications) to propose building a new cell tower at Western Albemarle High School. This tower will generate recurring lease revenue to help offset County School expenses. This tower will also improve the County Schools' wireless broadband service for our students and teachers. Further, this tower will also significantly improve the in-building coverage of traditional wireless carriers (e.g., Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) at Brownsville Elementary, Henley Middle School, and Western Albemarle High School, inclusive of emergency 911 service. The County Schools have proposed placing this 145 foot tall monopole tower at the varsity football field of Western Albemarle High School, adjacent to existing light poles and tree buffering. A photo simulation of this proposed 145 foot tower is included in the adjacent picture. While the County Board of Supervisors has previously approved a similar tower at Albemarle County High School, we really need your help to obtain County approval on this proposed tower.
