We the undersigned demand that leggings, tight fitting pants, or yoga pants will be acceptable attire within the River View Junior High without the necessity of a fingertip length shirt. The denial of expression through clothing that not only provides proper coverage, but also adheres to adequate support is fundamentally unsound. This change will allow the young women of the junior high to not feel ashamed to wear clothing that are not baggy. The intolerance of form fitting bottoms results in a warped self confidence of the young teenagers. Young women now see form fitting bottoms as a shameful experience rather than embracing their self confidence. Leggings comply with the standpoints in the handbook as obtaining proper coverage and adequate support; although, they are no longer allowed in our school without shirt coverage extending past fingertips. Leggings and skinny jeans provide the same body image, but only leggings have stricter rules. Form fitting sweatpants worn by both genders also provide this appearance, but only the female students have had meetings to address the intolerance of leggings without a proper lengthed shirt. This is an injustice to not only the female's self confidence, but the gender equality status of the River View Junior High's dress code. The following signatures agree with the abolishment of the inability to wear leggings, tight fittings pants, or yoga pants without a fingertip length shirt throughout RVJHS.
