Surf Academy, founded in 2000 by US Surfing Champion and Walk of Fame Honoree Mary Setterholm and carried forward since 2006 by her daughter, Marion Clark, has grown to be the largest surf school in the United States. Its enthusiastic and professional surf instructors teach and coach surfing for women, men, teenagers, and children of all ages and has been permitted to run camps through the City of Santa Monica for the past 11 years. This year, the City of Santa Monica granted another organization the privilege to run a surf camp at Tower 28, thus denying Surf Academy Collective’s application to continue service. The only reason given to Surf Academy Collective for this was, “the other group made a better offer and presentation.” By signing your name below, you are asking the City of Santa Monica to reconsider and ultimately reinstate Surf Academy’s permit to continue to serve the city of Santa Monica.
